Hynes-Hawkins Duo
Jazz Masters At Work

In November 2004 guitarist Tom Hynes and bassist Marshall Hawkins presented a live jazz concert at the Fret House in Covina.   Tom is one of Los Angeles busiest and best known Jazz guitarists and bassist Marshall Hawkins has had a superb career spanning nearly four decades from stints with MilesDavis to this current duo partnership.

Guitarist, Tom Hynes

For those of you who don't know the Fret House it is a mecca for guitarist of all persuasions and they monthly sponsor several guitar showcase events and outstanding concerts in their basement "coffee house" club.

Bassist, Marshall Hawkins

Tom Hynes and producer Jim Linahon have been friends and worked together for almost 25 years, so when Tom called Jim a week before the concert and asked if there was any way to do a "live recording" how could he say no?

Jim joined forces with engineer Dave Ramlo, and they were able to put together some superb recording gear including eight Millenium Mic Pres, four Royer Microphones, and two Demeter Tube DI's all recorded directly to Tascam DA 98's.

The two hour concert featured eleven tunes that demonstrated both artist's superb jazz abilities and the unique element of true communication on the highest musical level between these two great friends.

After three crazy months in the LMP Studios, in late February producer Jim Linahon was finally able to sit back and mix this truly wonderful "live" CD.   The result was superb music with world class sound and all the great spontaneity and joy of great jazz artists.

The CD should be released this fall - stay tuned to this page for the release date and we will keep you updated!
