| The Joe Jewell Quartet On January 8 th and 9 th LMP Studios welcomed the artistry of the Joe Jewell Quartet for a great two-day tracking session for a new CD entitled "Note Counts" . This long overdue CD from guitarist Joe Jewel demonstrates not only Joe's superb guitar technical skills, but also his big heart and warm personality which immediately comes across in this superb musical recording. Choosing a very unique and eclectic group of songs, Joe and his fellow musicians Reed Gratz on piano, Baba Elefante on bass, and Mike Bennett on drums create a truly inspiring musical "tour de force". For Jazz aficionados this CD has a fantastically unusual musical timbre of various acoustic/electric guitars, original Fender Rhoades, six string electric bass, drums and world percussion. The approach to these recording sessions was all about the music - when the group achieved the right emotional performance that was the one they choose to keep every time . The entire two days of recording with Joe, Reed, Baba, and Mike were relaxed, upbeat, and full of good humor. The respect and affection each artist brought to this project was very evident in the great takes they created and in the fantastic improvisations each contributed. For Engineer/Producer Jim Linahon this was a musical project performed "...at the highest level...what a joy!" Bob Jensen - Dean of Fine Arts at Fullerton College where Joe Jewel is Professor of Guitar - took time from his busy schedule to visit the recording session on Sunday and to enjoy the brilliance of Joe's guitar artistry. The "Note Counts" CD should go into mix at LMP Studios in mid-March and after a label is selected should be released in late mid-April.
