University of Northern Colorado In early June with LMP already committed to two major CD recording projects (plus a TV Pilot mix) who should "pop in the door" on a very tight schedule? Why that international "bon vivant" and Director Emeritus of UNC Jazz program Gene Aitken of course. Gene was between Asia and Europe with only a very limited 3 days to start a new project. He brought with him several UNC Vocal Jazz and Jazz Band 1 recordings that had been recorded and created in the very early 1980's. Several of these had been released only on vinyl LP's or if they had made it to CD's were now out of print and unavailable. Gene - ever the perfectionist - wanted to remix, edit, and remaster the various LP's or CD's that UNC no longer had available in its catalog. This necessitated carefully going through several 25-year old analog master tapes and occasionally "dropping from vinyl LP" (you know.... "records"?...what are those Dad?) to LMP's Pro Tools HD Accel III system.

Suffice it say it was fun, at times frustrating, but always full of lots of outstanding young artists playing and singing great music at a very high artistic level. And the Sushi and Italian food consumed after 14 hours work days tasted superb! These CD's will put Gene and Jim (as a production team) somewhere in the mid 30's in the number of CD's released!

As a quick side note - Gene has just tentatively accepted a position in Singapore to be the music consultant in the building of the new Singapore University Performing Arts Center (complete with recording studio) and oversee the development of the Singapore University Music Conservatory . Go Gene!! | ||
