Biola University LMP Producer Jim Linahon engineered and the three-day recording sessions yielded some outstanding music from these dedicated young musicians. Playing some very challenging pro-level charts the band's achievements over the three days showed remarkable musical growth! Many of you may recognize Will Kennedy as the drummer for the outstanding jazz group The Yellow jackets. Indeed, in addition to some first class producing, Will did record drum tracks for one of the tunes with the Biola Jazz Band and it was both artistically inspiring and a great opportunity for the young jazz students to play with a first class professional drummer. Needless to say it cooked! Also joining the band in the studio were L.A. professional Trumpeters Harry Kim, Mario Gonazales and Mark Hix who played some great solo's/lead trumpet and joined in with the Biola trumpet/trombone sections to create some exdellent brass tracks. Ron Kobayashi - one of LA's top jazz pianists also guest performed three numbers and recorded some outstanding solos with the band.

LA arranger, pianist, and composer Rique Patoja brought in a wonderfully creative arrangement of Doxology and then performed a super piano solo on the cut! Congratulations to all these professionals for sharing their skills with the Biola students - one generation helping and teaching the next! |
With all these great professional artists contributing their talents, the Biola Jazz Band was inspired and the resultant CD "Crossroads" is a tribute to the musical efforts of the students, director Cliff Hulling and the great production team lead by Will Kennedy. Congratulations to all! |
